Welcome to
Potluck & Pups
The recipe blog format here is not your typical set up. Here at Potluck & Pups we do things a little different.
All recipes will be at the very top of the page.
We hate scrolling through 6 pages of pictures and commentary too! Don't worry we put all that at the bottom so you can understand why we do things the way we do (if you're into that kind of thing).
We will not include nutritional information.
The ingredients and brands I use may have different nutritional values than what you have available to you. So, I'd rather not include it than provide inaccurate information. If you really want to know the nutritional value, I suggest using an online recipe analyzer like this one: Recipe analyzer | Calorie & nutrition calculator
We do not go crazy over making sure our dog food recipes are balanced.
Let's be honest, most people don't even feed themselves a completely balanced meal. Our dogs eat a hybrid meal that is 1/3 kibble (Missy eats Purina pro plan shreds and Ava eats Blue Buffalo for weight management). Our girls also get a vitamin every night before bed to help balance it all out. I also do not feed them the same recipe all the time. Their food is on a two-week rotation then I switch to something else with a different protein and veggies. That way more of my bases are covered with their nutrition. Because of this we don't feel the need to bend over backwards with crazy recipes that have a long list of expensive ingredients. Our vet knows how we feed our dogs. You should check with your vet before feeding your dogs any home cooked dog food recipes you find on the internet (including mine). What's good for one dog may not be good for another.
In our house we refer to ourselves as "The Humans" so you will see often see us refer to ourselves that way on this site as well.
We find it funny. It's ok if you don't.
Potluck & Pups grew out of my love for the kitchen and my even bigger love for my pups. I've always been a creator—whether I was learning to sew with my grandmother or experimenting with a new recipe for 'the humans.' When my late sweet boy Toto needed specialized meals (because he was a toothless wonder), I dove into the world of homemade dog food and never looked back.
Today, our kitchen is supervised by Missy (our 2-year-old Shichon) and Ava (our 6-year-old Pembroke Welsh Corgi). They are the heart of everything I do here, from perfecting recipes to sharing my latest DIY crafts.
Thank you for joining our journey where dancing in the kitchen is a requirement!
