Instructions:
The first thing I do with any project is gather all of my materials because having to hunt things down as I'm trying to do them makes the project take longer.
The Wreath
Artificial flowers can be expensive so before I attach anything I like to figure out my placement by laying everything out on top of the wreath. I also do not cut my artificial flowers or hot glue them to the wreath so that I can remove them and/or move them when I want to switch things up. The wreath I'm using is on its 3rd life.
Once I have my placement I take all of the decorations and lay them out on the table around the wreath exactly how it was laid out on the wreath. I do this so I don't forget where I want everything to go.
Starting from the center of the design I start attaching the flowers on the wreath. To do this I push the stems into the wreath so it comes out the back end. Then I push the end of the stem back into the wreath. This typically works with the wreath forms that are made out of twigs. If I was using a different type of wreath form like a foam or wire one, I would use thin floral wire to attach the stems in place.
After everything is in place I like to do a little fluffing and adjusting of the flowers and greenery.
The Middle Insert
Paint the wood circle. I chose to use black because I want the white vinyl to really stand out next to the flowers.
Since I didn't want the wood circle to show brush strokes or have a shine to it, I used a paper towel to blot the entire wood circle while the paint was still wet. This helps to get rid of the shine and give a nice matte texture.
I wanted the wood circle to say "Please come back with tacos…" so while the paint dried I loaded up Cricut design space and created my design. If you do not have a cricut you could always paint whatever phrase you want.
I cut the image out on the white vinyl with the cricut and transferred it to the wood circle once the paint is dry.
Combining the two
Since I wanted my sign to be interchangeable I decided not to attach it directly to the wreath. Instead I used some twine and hung it directly on the wreath hanger then hung the wreath over top.
I plan on making a few other inserts. The next insert will say "but did you bring snacks?". I will also be doing one for each season at some point. The idea of this project is to have a front door wreath that can be changed, added to, updated, etc. without having to own a wreath for each season/holiday. I live in an apartment, have limited space, and limited money. I have two wreaths. This one that will be interchangeable and my Christmas wreath which also gets changed up every couple years.
